Art Club Sponsored by Tony Noto
The Cuthbertson Middle School Art Club is a group that allows students to focus on creating their own artwork in a supportive and creative environment. We welcome students who are passionate about making art. The club is an open studio in which artists explore new and familiar art media, creating artwork of their own choice. Art Club is open to 24 students from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades through an application process. If you are very interested in art and want to be around others who share your passion, then Art Club is for you!
Application contains:
Current overall grade in Math ______;
Current overall grade in ELA ______;
Current overall grade in Science or Social Studies __________
Essay questions:
1. What experience have you had with art?
2. Tell why you are interested in joining Art Club.
3. Part of this application is your existing ability. You’ll need to send the sponsor some original artwork.Our primary goal in our Art Club is to give students a chance to work beside other students interested in art and be provided feedback from their peers and their sponsor. Art Club is SELF-DIRECTED. It is a place for practicing artists to hone in on their skills, develop their techniques and portfolios, and collaborate with other artists like themselves. This club is NOT a sponsor-driven, project-based extension of art class. This club does not provide formal art lessons through the sponsor. The art club is not to be used for socializing with friends. If at any time, a student becomes a distraction to other art club members and/or is using the time to socialize rather than creating art, that student will be dropped from the Art Club and someone from the wait list will be added.
IMPORTANT: Students are expected to provide and bring their own art materials to club meetings. The only mediums we can work with are painting (watercolor, acrylic, oil) and drawing (pencil, color pencil, marker, pastel chalk).
Students are expected to arrange for their ride to pick them up ON TIME after each meeting.
Attendance: Students are expected to be in Art Club unless Mr. Noto has been previously notified or the student is absent for the school day. Three unexcused absences will result in removal from the club.Behavior: Students with a history of lunch detentions, ISS or OSS will not be selected for the art club. Members are required to bring a positive attitude and to abide by all the art classroom rules and Cuthbertson Middle school rules. Students will be safe and act responsibly while using the art room or any borrowed materials. Failure to respect and follow these rules might result in termination from the Art Club.
Members are selected at the beginning of the year. Wait list names will fill openings if the original member quits or is asked to leave the club.

With 5 different problems for members to pick from, there is always one that you and a group feel confident tackling. Students in this club learn about performing, building, time management, working together as a group, and creative problem-solving.
This club is open to all grade levels.
Members are selected based on what problem everyone wants to solve, and which grown-ups are willing to be team leaders/captains
Does this club accept new members throughout the year?
It depends. If there is room for them in a team, and they are willing to jump into the middle of the team solving the problem, then yes. It is also up to the team leader and team members if they want to add another person. It also depends on whether the team has been to a competition already.Website for Odyssey of the Mind:

Yearbook Staff Sponsored by Rebecca Jacobson
The yearbook staff is selected at the beginning of each school year based on applications and teacher recommendations. The staff plans the cover and theme for the yearbook, takes photos, conducts interviews, and completes and edits all yearbook pages. Students interested in the yearbook should have basic photography knowledge and experience, as well as good people skills, creativity, and writing ability. We meet twice a week during Cavs Block.
During the application period in September, students must fill out the online application. Students must also give two paper teacher recommendation forms to their current or former teachers. Teachers then turn forms directly in to me. I consider each application and both teacher forms when choosing the staff for each school year.
We use Jostens Yearbook Avenue software to create the yearbook. Students chosen for the staff are given a login and password for the site. www.yearbookavenue.jostens.com
New members are selected in September of each school year. Returning members can come back to the staff without having to apply again.
